Greater Scranton YMCA host 5k run/walk

(WBRE/WYOU) — The rain held off for dozens of runners Saturday morning in Lackawanna County.

More than 60 people participated in the Inaugural Greater Scranton YMCA 5k run and one-mile walk.

All of the proceeds will support the annual support campaign for the Dunmore-based YMCA.

Drawing up some fun at Chalkfest

"At the Y we don't turn anyone away for the inability to pay, and in order to do that we subsidize or hand out scholarships, so everyone can come be a part of the y and the things that it offers. So this is just another way to raise money to help people who are less fortunate come enjoy the things that we offer here," explained Brandon Whipple a senior program director at the Greater Scranton YMCA.

Saturday's overall winner of the 5k was 38-year-old Tim Nowakowski of Factoryville.

He finished the 5k in 16 minutes and 27 seconds.
