Greenbriar Children’s Center to celebrate early learning during Georgia Pre-K week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Greenbriar Children's Center is preparing to celebrate early learning and school readiness during Georgia Pre-K Week.

The week is an annual event to celebrate the state's nationally recognized Pre-K program and other quality early learning centers.

Now in year 14, Georgia Pre-K Week raises awareness for the importance of quality early childhood education. Community leaders and elected officials celebrate the occasion by visiting Pre-K centers to see early learning in action. Attendees also read a favorite children's book to young learners.

"Greenbriar is proud to be a part of the Georgia Pre-K program", said Gena P. Taylor, Executive Director of Greenbriar Children's Center. "We have invited special guests to read to our children throughout Pre-K week, including Mayor Van Johnson, who will be with us on Tuesday, October 8th, to read with our children. Leaders in our community understand that children who attend a strong early learning program develop critical building blocks for learning both in primary and in secondary school."

"We understand the crucial role that early education plays in a student's success. Children who experience quality early learning environments are more prepared for kindergarten, and this early start helps set them on a positive path for the future."

Georgia Pre-K Week is organized each year by Voices for Georgia's Children, a policy and advocacy non-profit organization, with the full support of Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Georgia Pre-K Week runs from Oct. 7 through Oct. 11.
