T.Williams6 hr ago
: After premiering his debut feature Griffin in Summer at the Tribeca Festival and seeing it rack up multiple awards, filmmaker Nicholas Colia has signed with Buchwald for representation. A coming-of-age drama that Colia also wrote, Griffin in Summer tells the story of 14-year-old Griffin Nafly (Everett Blunck), who is the most ambitious playwright of his generation. But once he meets handsome 25-year-old handyman Brad (Owen Teague), his life (and play) will never be the same. Abby Ryder Fortson, Melanie Lynskey and Kathryn Newton co-star. Following the film's Tribeca premiere in US Narrative Competition, it took home the Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature, the U.S. Narrative award for Best Screenplay, and a Special Jury Mention for the New Narrative Director Award. Thereafter, it continued its festival run in Calgary, where it was nominated for Best Feature, with additional stops in Nashville, Mill Valley, Savannah, Poland, and Knoxville. The film was also among the few to be showcased at the inaugural "Tribeca in Lisbon" event earlier this summer. It is currently being shopped for distribution. Colia received his MFA from NYU Graduate Film School, where he was the recipient of the Martin Scorsese and Maurice Kanbar Scholarships. His short films include Alex and the Handyman, which won the National Board of Review Student Grant and the 1st Place King Award for Graduate Films at NYU's Wasserman Awards, as well as Untitled Short Film About White People, which won the Audience Award for Best Student Short at Palm Springs Shortfest. Colia continues to be repped by Anonymous Content and Sloss Eckhouse.
