He is New Zealand rock royalty and the lead singer of a legendary Kiwi pop rock band.

The 70-year-old music veteran has been active in the industry since the early 70s as a solo artist.

He has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Boney M and Renee Geyer.

His voice would be instantly recognisable to millions of Australians, as he was the original singer of the iconic Home and Away theme song for the long-running soap opera.

On Wednesday, the passionate rocker appeared on Today Extra and shocked co-hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys with his incredible new look.

He has said goodbye to his trademark flowing shoulder-length black hair and now sports short dreadlocks and rounder facial features.

However, he still wore the same cheeky grin that won over millions of fans in his heyday.

Of course, it is Mark Williams, the legendary Kiwi rocker who took over from the late Marc Hunter as front man of the pop rock band Dragon, after his death in 1998.

Williams beamed as he told the hosts about Dragon's upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

'It all started when I supported Boney M on tour, it was inspired by that!

'I have been in the business for five decades, so I thought why not put it together?' Mark continued.

'In December, my daughter will be supporting me on stage.'

Dragon will kick off their Australasian tour with a show at Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse on Friday, December 6, before heading to other major cities for the iconic 50-year anniversary concert.

The band formed in Auckland in 1972 and was fronted by Marc Hunter.

They had huge hits with songs such as Rain and Are You Old Enough?

Sadly, Hunter died from throat cancer in 1998 and the band broke up for several years, before reforming in 2006 with Williams as their new singer.
