Gut-wrenching loss for Bengals on Sunday Night Football

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The Cincinnati Bengals fell 34-27 to the Los Angeles Chargers in a gut-wrenching loss on Sunday Night Football.

The Bengals are now 4-7 after yet another close game.

They turned around a slow start (24-6 at halftime) with three straight Joe Burrow touchdown passes to Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and then to Chase again.

The fourth-quarter comeback electrified fans and tied up the game.

"Burrow, Chase, Higgins. It's why the Bengals are always dangerous," FOX19 NOW Sports Anchor Joe Danneman said on X. "Momentum now all on Cincinnati's side."

But kicker Evan McPherson missed two fourth-quarter field goals including one with less than a minute to go in the game.

Then the Chargers scored their final touchdown.

In a post-game news conference, Burrow confirmed this is the most frustrating season he's ever had.

"It's pretty self-explanatory," he responded when asked why.

The team is failing to play well at key moments, he acknowledged.

"Just gotta make the plays, just gotta make the plays," Burrow said, adding that "our margin of error is slim. So we gotta make those plays. I gotta make those plays, we all gotta make those plays."

Burrow said he's not happy with where the team is at - and he doesn't think anybody is.

"All you can do is come back tomorrow and try to get better," he said.

The Bengals are going into a bye week.

They return to Paycor Stadium for a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.
