TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A local home assistance organization received funding to repair 10 homes in the capital city.

Topeka Habitat for Humanity announced Wednesday that Lowe's Home Improvement granted the organization $50,500. This grant money will go towards repairing 10 homes in Shawnee County, according to a news release from Topeka Habitat for Humanity's CEO Janice Watkins.

This is part of Habitat for Humanity's Aging in Place program , to assist low-income homeowners.

"Over the last several years we have seen an increasing demand for services through our Aging in Place program, as the aging struggle to upkeep their homes due to limited budgets and the physical demands of home maintenance," Watkins said. "Our Aging in Place program helps renew hope in an aging homeowner's ability to stay in their home with increased accessibility, affordability, and safety. We are once again thankful to Lowe's and their partnership in helping us create a stronger and healthier community."
