Halloween Background
John Carpenter wrote and directed and it released a few days before Halloween in 1978. It features Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie in her breakout role.
Basically, 6-year-old Michael Myers kills his sister on Halloween night in Haddonfield, IL. He escapes from his detainment center 15 years later, roaming the streets of his hometown, where he chooses his next victims.
Zoomer Thoughts on Halloween
This film begins in a peculiar manner. I felt uneasy knowing who the killer was from the get-go; it gave the film a crime-thriller vibe rather than pure horror. I found that refreshing because it was realistic. There was no supernatural element. takes itself seriously, and it deserves to. Also, production designer and editor Tommy Lee Wallace deserves some serious credit for that mask. Apparently, Wallace bought a William Shatner mask from a costume shop for $1.98, spray painted it white, and messed around with the hair and eye holes. It's so simple, so low budget, yet it contrasts sociopathic violence with this complete lack of emotion to create an effectively terrifying killer. Poor William Shatner. Supposedly the film was originally titled which fits. And I'm sorry, but I feel no pity for what happened to Annie (Nancy Loomis). She low-key had it coming. She was so catty and annoying, plus she was the worst babysitter ever. Jamie Lee Curtis, on the other hand, served face the entire film. She's the people's babysitter for real because... she's not an absolute idiot.Arts All Around!

Zoomer Judgments
Why it wasn't national news that Michael Myers, a mentally-ill man, escaped from the mental hospital is beyond me, bro. Foolery. Watching over a serial killer's shoulder as he stalks a couple making out, is possibly the most weirded out I have ever been in my life. That libido must be running to make them oblivious. And stop walking in the dark! Turn on a light, you idiots! A knitting needle is not going to kill the boogeyman! Forgive me, this is something I yelled at the screen many, many times. The scene where Laurie runs around screaming for help was so guttural and helpless, like that was the scene I've been missing. That was fabulous. And when Laurie found the bodies? Horrifying. But I'm gonna make a wild assumption and say: Maybe we should try stabbing a serial killer before we assume he's dead, Laurie. Also, there's no way Michael Myers is bulletproof. Like, come on! There's no way bro got shot eight times, fell off a balcony, survived. Overall, is the most well-done of the films I've reviewed. However, the others are campier. I will absolutely be watching this one again next year. It has been a pleasure to have you join me as I gradually culture myself in time for the Halloween season. Happy Halloween to all, and to all, a good night. So far this month, Nicole's reviewedFriday the 13thA Nightmare on Elm StreetThe Evil Dead
