HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - YWCA Adams County started off the Fourth of July holiday with giving kids a chance to show off their red, white and blue.

Kids, and kids at heart, decorated bicycles, wagons, and toy ATVs, before taking a stroll around the fountain to the beat of a marching band.

YWCA Adams County Executive Director Laura Stutte said the event gives kids their own time to celebrate Independence Day.

"We really love this event because it's during the day when there's not a lot of other activities going on, and for all the little kids who don't want to stay up late for the fireworks, this is a perfect event," Stutte said. "We really enjoy seeing the whole community come together and grandparents and everybody come from out of town."

There were hamburgers and hotdogs on sale, and a raffle. Stutte said the proceeds from those sales are going to a good cause.

"The money we raise at the Fourth of July parade goes towards our free youth programs that we have throughout the year," Stutte said. "For example, The Zone after School program for middle school youth."

Stutte said it's great to see the community coming together for the holiday.

"We love that the weather cooperated for us today as well, but I love seeing people each year come out and fill this entire area around Fisher Fountain," Stutte said. "I know that everybody enjoys coming year after year cause we see some repeat faces and kids, so it's really fun."

The YWCA has hosted this event for over 40 years.
