Jewel Elizabeth Henson OBITUARY
On Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, Jewel Elizabeth Henson passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 98. She was married to William M. Henson, Jr. in 1952 and they were inseparable until his death in 2018.Jewel was born on the first day of spring, on March 20th, 1926, in Teresita, Oklahoma to Robert F. Lawrence and Ollie O. Cary. Eventually, the family moved to San Jose and the children would have families of their own. Jewel and her sisters, Ruby J. Parker and Golda Pearl DaPonte, as well as brother John W. Lawrence, remained in California. The other four brothers returned to the Midwest. In 1951, Jewel would meet her future husband "Mel" on a blind date set up by her youngest sister Golda, lovingly known as "Buggy."Jewel and Mel happily shared over sixty-five wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children: Robert (Robin) of Cedar Flat, OR; Kathleen Casey (Lionel Maciel) of Madera, CA, and Julie (David) Johnson of Manteca, CA."Nana," as she was always known by family and friends, was devoted to her children, fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was the beloved matriarch of our family, and the last of her generation. "Nana" was our Rock. She was the glue that held our family together. She is the reason we still gather. Sweet beyond compare, loved by all... and loved for all she gave us. She will always be remembered.
