Hastings native helping Supernovas succeed from front office

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Omaha Supernovas hold the title as the first-ever champions of the Pro Volleyball Federation. The franchise is taking the title on a trophy tour around the state, which recently stopped in Hastings.

Part of that, is due to the franchise's Director of Corporate Partnerships, Murphy Maurer.

"It's a pretty well-known fact around the office that I am from the Tri-Cities, I'm from Hastings," Maurer said. "One of my coworkers came up to me and said, 'Hey Murphy, do you know anywhere in the Tri-Cities where we can get this trophy out there?' And I said, 'I know the place.' First Street Brewing has been awesome throughout the whole season and posting about us and showing our matches."

Maurer is a Hastings High graduate who spent three years at the University of Nebraska before getting her masters at Creighton. That led her to a job with the Supernovas ahead of their first year.

"It was a perfect fit," she said. "I am a huge supporter of women in sports and this was up and coming. I felt like I aligned with their mission and what they stood for and what they're trying to do. I took a leap and it was a leap. It was a lot of hard work, but in the end it paid off."

Maurer said that the support she has received from her hometown has been immense, but that it's also special to push the Supernovas brand outside of Omaha.

"Everyone around here has been so receptive," Maurer said. "I like to think that a few of my family friends and people who I know are Supernovas fans because of me, but also because we're an awesome organization and we're enhancing women's sports and we're the first pro team in Nebraska and all these wonderful things."
