Hastings native Lopez scores brace as Broncos win GPAC Tournament title

HASTINGS, Neb. ( Press Release ) - The Hastings College women's soccer team completed the sweep of the GPAC regular season and tournament championships, defeating the No. 2-seed Concordia Bulldogs 4-0 in the GPAC final.

An aggressive defensive play and lead pass from Hastings native and senior Dulce Lopez led to the first Bronco goal five minutes into the match, as freshman Madison Rhodes kicked it past the Bulldog goalkeeper, bringing the student-filled crowd to their feet.

Hastings scored a second goal in the 26th minute by junior Erica Inay, who had checked in three minutes at that point, coming off of an initial shot by Schubert that ricocheted off the crossbar, right to Inay, who put it through.

Coming off of a corner kick, a header from senior Dekota Schubert bounced to Lopez, who touched it in for the 3-0 first half lead in the 42nd minute. Hastings controlled the time of possession in the opening period, taking 14 shots to Concordia's one, with nine shots on goal. Schubert led the way with four shots and senior Allison Seery took three shots.

While the Broncos stayed on the attack in the second half, they were content to run some clock when they had the ball to preserve the 3-0 lead. Lopez scored the lone goal of the second half off a pass from junior Jesse Chartier in the 80th minute for her second goal of the match. Hastings held the 4-0 shutout the rest of the way to take the championship.

For the match, Hastings outshot the Bulldogs 22-4 and 11-2 on shots on goal. Schubert led the team with eight shot attempts, along with four attempts from Seery and Rhodes. Villasenor was able to save both opportunities to preserve the clean sheet win.
