Hawkridge vineyard focused on conservation as Winefest nears

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Hawkridge vineyard, located in Palisade, teamed up with Colorado West Land Trust to keep the agriculture community alive.

The agreement prevents development on the 20-acre piece of land and grants water rights to the farmers, according to CWLT Executive Director, Rob Bleiberg.

He adds that it's all a part of keeping the Palisade charm.

The Bookcliff Vineyards receives the fruit for its wines from Hawk Ridge.

"It's a way to showcase what we think is some of the best wine that comes out of Colorado. A reason to protect this area is it would be sad to have anything else here that gets in the way of the amazing fruit that's produced here... that produces award-winning Colorado best wines," said Jordan Dickard, Owner and CEO of Bookcliff Vineyards.

CWLT is working with other farms in Palisade to protect agriculture and natural land.
