Hazardous waste disposal event set for Saturday
Oct. 16—St. Joseph residents will have a chance to safely get rid of hazardous waste and electronics this weekend.
The city of St. Joseph is hosting its Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Remington Nature Center parking lot on MacArthur Drive.
An ID with proof of residency will be required to participate.
Accepted materials include:
* Oil (limit of 26 gallons)
* Antifreeze
* Fuels
* Cleaners
* Batteries
* Household cleaners
* Lawn and garden products
* Pesticides
* Paint and related products (limit of 26 gallons)
* Photographic chemicals
* Pool chemicals
Electronics accepted include:
* Computer towers
* Printers
* Keyboards
* Laptops
* Hard drives
* Speakers
* Cell phones
* Pagers
* Radios
* Scanners
* VCRs
* DVD players
* Fax machines
* Answering machines
* Non-PCB ballasts
* Stereos
* Furnaces
* Water heaters
* Microwaves
* Stoves
* Power tools
* Restaurant equipment
Big screen/projection TVs and CRT TVs will be accepted for a fee of $30. LED, LCD or plasma TVs will be accepted for a fee of $20. CRT monitors will be accepted for a fee of $5.
This event takes place twice a year during April and October.
