Head-on car crash in west Phoenix sends 4 to the hospital, leaves 2 dead

A head-on car crash in west Phoenix on Saturday evening left two people dead and six others injured, causing road closures in the area, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez reported that the "serious" crash occurred about 2:35 p.m. near 85th Avenue and McDowell Road, where an adult woman and an adult man were pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other victims were taken to the hospital in critical and life-threatening condition, according to Enriquez.

Some of the victims in more stable condition were children, according to Enriquez.

The roads in the area of the crash would remain closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash, according to Enriquez, who asked the public to avoid the area.
