ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – On Wednesday, Ector County Republican Women hosted a forum at the MCM Elegante for candidates running for office in the Basin.

Among the candidates were Odessa Mayoral candidates Javier Joven and Cal Hendrick. Both answered questions on what they plan to bring to the office if they are elected. How each candidates plan to bring new business to the city were among the topics up for discussion.

"We are the king of service, and being able to bring more service, it creates more self-sacrifice. And then also to continue to work with incentives of the facade program that has never been cut, that is handled through the OVC, and took out a lot of the bureaucracy, where it's just directly in the OVC handles it, they budget it, as the projects come in, to continue and expand the facade program outside of the city limits. I think every successful town has a problem downtown," said Joven.

Early voting begins next Monday: what you should know

"You want to have things that excite people and bring them to downtown. If you're not in Odessa, you're making a mistake. You need to bring every oil company, every place in the world to Odessa, Texas," said Hendrick.
