Held at The Backyard, Eighth Street and Penn Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh, the event will feature a wide variety of food vendors, a meatball-eating contest (winner gets $1,000!) and live music. Admission to the event is free.

The festival will feature more than 40 food vendors and even some family-friendly activities. It will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Learn more at highmark.com .

Sturgill Simpsons at the Pete

Grammy Award-winning country-rock artist Sturgill Simpson will bring his "Why Not?" tour to the Petersen Events Center on Friday night.

Simpson's old-school country sensibilities combine with a diverse music style to make for especially fun live shows. The concert will start at 8 p.m. It will also feature music from Simpson's own alter ego, Johnny Blue Skies, the name under which he released his eighth studio album, "Passage du Desir."

It's the perfect season for a ghost story, and "Macbeth" is one of the best ghost stories of all time. Starting on Friday, the Heritage Players local theater company will perform this immortal Shakespeare play. "Macbeth" is a tale of political betrayal, murder and ambition that will engage even the most skeptical Shakespeare novice.

Performances will be held at the Seton Center in Brookline at 1900 Pioneer Ave. There will be shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. General admission tickets are $12 each, and senior tickets are $10.

Spooky specimens will be there for examination, as well as lots of fun surprises. Guests are encouraged to come in costume for even more Halloween spirit. There will even be a live pumpkin carving demonstration.

Themed cocktails will be available for purchase, as well as some bites. Tickets are $24, or $19 if you're already a museum member. Scare up yours at carnegiemnh.org .

After decades, international audiences haven't gotten tired of percussion sensation STOMP. Get ready for an unconventional and spellbinding performance from a group of eight percussionists who will use anything to make a beat.

STOMP will be in town as part of the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with an additional Saturday matinee at 2 p.m., all at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh's Cultural District.
