Hinds County receives $1.2 million for road improvements

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $1,280,000 to Hinds County under the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) initiative.

According to Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the grant will fund critical planning and demonstration projects and will enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents across the region.

The project, located in Jackson, will focus on improving crosswalk visibility and implementing other critical safety enhancements.

The initiative will also include measures to promote safer speeds by adjusting road designs, which includes adding chicanes and implementing road diets that narrow lanes or reduce the number of lanes.
