Los Angeles police arrested and charged a homeless woman with murder in connection to the shooting death of a Hollywood executive inside his home this week.

Authorities said they took Jameelah Elena Michl, 36, into custody Monday after she broke into the Wilshire area home of 33-year-old Michael Latt and seemingly killed him at random.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office formally charged Ms. Michl with murder and burglary Wednesday.

Police said the suspect broke into Mr. Latt’s home at about 6 p.m. Monday and mortally wounded the victim by shooting him. The motive for the break-in and shooting are under investigation.

Mr. Latt was home with his fiancee at the time of the break-in.

Mr. Latt worked as the CEO of Lead With Love, a social justice arts organization.

He previously worked as the marketing lead for the 2013 film “Fruitvale Station,” about a young Black man killed by a transit officer in Oakland, California.

Mr. Latt was the son of movie producer David Latt and Michelle Satter, the founding director of the Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program.

Ms. Michl is being held on a $3 million bond at the L.A. County Jail.

Her car, which police listed as her primary residence, was impounded for evidence.
