Hope enjoyed the mild weather today because it’s all winter the rest of the holiday week

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - It felt more like mid October today versus late November as temperatures climbed into the 60s and even a few 70s in the southwest part of the state. I hope you enjoyed it because it’s all downhill from here on out through the Thanksgiving weekend. A cold front will dive south through the area tonight and winds will turn northerly behind the front. We’ll also start to see increasing clouds overnight. Thanksgiving Thursday will be a chilly and blustery day as winds increase out of the northeast. Winds up to around 20 mph are expected with some gusts to around 30 mph. Highs will range from the lower 30s north to the low/mid 40s south. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and the clouds will be thickening up as the day goes on. Some of the thickest clouds will be over northwestern areas. By the end of the afternoon, some snow will start moving into Northwest Nebraska.

That snow will start to push southward through the western portions of Nebraska Thursday night into Friday morning. Most of it will fall along and west of Highway 83, although a little light snow will fall in parts of Central Nebraska. The same situation continues into the day Friday as snow mainly falls in areas mainly west of Highway 83. A little light snow may fall about as far east as Highway 281. Friday night into Saturday, the snow will start to make a push to the east and southeast. Most of the snow will accumulate in the Friday through Saturday time frame. It will eventually clear out Saturday night. After the snow is done, accumulation is expected to be highest over western areas. Some totals of 6 inches or more will be possible in those locations. Totals will get lower as you go to the east and northeast. For the Tri-Cities, my very early forecast calls for around 1 to 3 inches. Thankfully, the winds will not be terribly strong, which should keep blowing snow to a minimum. But keep in mind, we are still several days out and this forecast is subject to change.

Temperatures will be coldest on Friday and Saturday. Highs will mostly be in the 20s and lower 30s these two days. Dry weather and more sunshine is anticipated Sunday through Tuesday. By Sunday and Monday, highs will be back into the 30s and lower 40s. Tuesday, we could see more solid 40s across the area. These temperatures may stick around through the rest of the week. This will be fairly close to average for the end of November.
