Hot, steamy, stormy Independence Day

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Get ready for a steamy day with highs in the mid 90s, and heat index values reaching 105-110. Be sure to stay hydrated, and take some breaks indoors when you can.

The storms start to fire up in the early afternoon and become more widespread later in the day. Most of the rain should end not long after sunset, clearing the way for most of the fireworks celebrations. It does stay steamy through the evening.

A typical summer weather pattern continues through the weekend. Expect morning sunshine, scattered afternoon downpours and plenty of heat and humidity. Highs stay in the low-mid 90s.

We continue to track Hurricane Beryl as it heads toward the Yucatan Peninsula and away from Jamaica. The storm could still be a Category 2 when it hits near Cozumel. The long range forecast takes into the southwest Gulf of Mexico, and it may impact southern Texas early next week.
