How ‘Sweetest’ Shelter Dog Greets Staff Every Morning Melts Hearts
A rescue dog has found her "forever home" after going viral online in a video posted to social media by staff at her animal shelter.
Nibbles, 5, was brought to the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida after her mom passed away, but soon found new owners in Oakland, California, after catching their attention online.
The dog had captured the hearts of staff members and online viewers alike due to her endearing habit of offering toys to everyone she came across at the shelter—something that staff say she did every single day. The video of Nibbles showing her toys off from inside a kennel has been viewed more than 1.1 million times since it was shared to TikTok on August 8 by shelter staff under is a sweet girl who always greeted visitors with a wagging tail and a playful spirit," Susan Leonti, the Humane Society of Broward County's digital marketing specialist, told Newsweek.
"We are truly touched by the response that Nibbles' video has received, and are delighted to say that the video resulted in a forever home for Nibbles.
"The Humane Society of Broward County is a nonprofit shelter in Broward County, Florida, that has been advocating for and improving the lives of animals since 1944," she added. "We rescue and rehome over 4,000 homeless pets each year."
Viewers online were able to see Nibbles hold a stuffed toy up from behind the walls of her kennel in a bid to get someone to play with her. The post then transitioned to a clip of her being let out of her kennel while holding a toy and bringing it forward for a member of staff. Her tail could be seen wagging excitedly throughout the interaction.
An overlaid text on the video read: "Every morning she greets us with her toy, 5-year-old Nibbles lost her mom and her home, she just wants a family to love and share her toys with."
The heartwarming post attracted over 5,100 comments, with one TikTok user updating others on what became of the playful dog who had gained significant attention online.
"I emailed the shelter [September 9] and they responded that Nibbles has been adopted and [is] at her forever home," one viewer, said.
Another, added: "I pray she is happy and in the home she deserves."
Staff at the shelter shared another post to the account on September 9, which provided invested followers with an update to Nibbles' story.
"To help her find a new family, we posted a heartfelt video showcasing her fun personality, and our amazing online community rallied behind her," they said. "Within just 48 hours, Nibbles found the happy ending she was hoping for and was transported to Oakland, California, to join her new forever family!"
