How to apply for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Helene

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — North Carolinians across 25 counties who had uninsured damages or losses caused by Hurricane Helene may be eligible for FEMA disaster assistance.

There are several ways to apply

  • Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov

  • Use the FEMA app

  • Call 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET daily

  • What you'll need to apply:

  • A current phone number

  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address of where you are now

  • Your social security number

  • A general list of damages and losses

  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit

  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

  • Homeowners and renters in the following counties are eligible to apply:

  • Alexander County

  • Alleghany County

  • Ashe County

  • Avery County

  • Buncombe County

  • Burke County

  • Caldwell County

  • Catawba County

  • Clay County

  • Cleveland County

  • Gaston County

  • Haywood County

  • Henderson County

  • Jackson County

  • Lincoln County

  • Macon County

  • Madison County

  • McDowell County

  • Mitchell County

  • Polk County

  • Rutherford County

  • Transylvania County

  • Watauga County

  • Wilkes County

  • Yancey County
