Here is a look at how to bet on NFL Thanksgiving and Black Friday games, including the different types of NFL bets that can be made and the best sports betting apps for wagering on the games.

NFL Thanksgiving and Black Friday Schedule

On Thursday, Nov. 23, the NFL will have its annual Thanksgiving tripleheader. Then on Friday, the NFL will have its first Black Friday game. Here is the schedule for Thursday and Friday:

  • How to bet on NFL Thanksgiving, Black Friday Games

It’s exciting to get going once you have your bonus cash, but don’t place any bets until you know exactly what you’re looking at. That includes how to read the betting odds and understanding all of the NFL bets offered by the various betting sites.

In most cases, sportsbooks will list one team as the favorite and the other as the underdog. The favorite will be the team with a minus (-) sign in front of their odds or point spread. The underdog will be the team with a plus (+) sign in front of their odds or point spread.

Here’s how each sportsbook entry may look:

    (Over/Under)MONEYLINEWashington Commanders+11 (-110)48.5 (-110)+440Dallas Cowboys-11 (-110)48.5 (-110)-600

Using the example above, you can see the Cowboys are favored by 11 points, and the odds associated with that wager are -110. That means you must wager $110 to win $100 on that betting market. No matter how much you wager, your bet will have -110 odds, so if you bet $55, you would win $50.

    NFL Moneyline betting

The moneyline is the simplest form of betting because all you have to do is pick a winner. It doesn’t matter if your team wins by one point or 30 points. As long as the team you bet on wins the game, then you win your wager.

Based on the strengths of the teams involved, the moneyline odds will vary. For instance, in the example above with Washington and Dallas, Washington is a double-digit underdog so the payout will be bigger if you bet on Washington and Washington wins.

The plus-money price means that is how much you profit if you bet $100. On the other hand, the minus-money price next to Dallas signifies that you must bet $600 to win $100. That doesn’t sound great, but the chances of Dallas winning seem to be bigger.

    NFL Point Spread betting

The point spread is the great equalizer in sports betting. Let’s look at the Thanksgiving night game between San Francisco and Seattle. The 49ers are favored by 6.5 points.

If you bet on the 49ers, it is not enough for them to win the game straight up. They must win by more than 6.5 points for you to win your bet. The good news is, you’re not tied to the bigger moneyline odds. Instead, your odds will be right at or close to -110.

On the other hand, if you bet on Seattle, you don’t need Seattle to win the game. You just need Seattle to lose by fewer than 6.5 points.

If you bet on a point spread that is a whole number such as 7, and the game is decided by exactly 7 points, then your bet is a push and you get your money back.

    NFL Totals (over/under)

When you bet on the total, it means the total points that will be scored in the game. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses.

In the Green Bay vs. Detroit game that begins the Thanksgiving Day schedule, the total is 47.5 points. You can bet Over or Under that point total.

    NFL Player Props

A prop bet is one that is not tied to the final score like the moneyline, point spread, or total. You can bet on many aspects of a game, such as individual player performances,, and that’s where prop bets come into play.

You can bet over/under on a player’s passing yardage total or rushing yardage total, etc. You can even bet on things like will a certain player score a touchdown or what a team will do on its first drive of the game.

NFL Game Props and Team Props

You can also bet on props that are not necessarily related to individual players, such as how many points one team will score, or how many touchdowns a team will score.

Game props include general bets like, will there be overtime or which team will be the first to X number of points.

Prop bets seem to be endless, so check your sportsbook for one or two that you like.

    NFL Parlay Betting

If you’re looking to bet a little to win a lot, then parlays are for you. Parlay bets involve making more than one wager and grouping them together.

The more wagers (or legs) in your parlay, the bigger the payout. While that’s nice, there is a catch. If any leg involved in the parlay loses, then the whole wager loses. If you have five legs in your parlay, you need to get all five correct to win the money. Getting 4 out of 5 right isn’t going to cut it. Tread lightly.

    NFL Live Betting

Every NFL game has pre-game odds, but kickoff doesn’t mean the betting experience is over. Every online sportsbook will adjust the odds as the game goes on based on what occurs in a game.

So, maybe you want to bet on the 49ers to beat the Seahawks, but you don’t want to lay 6.5 points. Well, if Seattle scores first, then the odds for San Francisco to win could go down and if you’re fast enough, you can get a better number than the original.

    NFL Futures Betting

If you want something to sweat that lasts longer than a single game, NFL futures betting is for you.

You can bet on things like which team will win the Super Bowl, or which player will win the NFL MVP award. These odds adjust throughout the season, so if you don’t believe a team is as bad as a three-game losing streak suggests, then you can get a better number before the winning streak begins.
