DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — As the spooky season begins to wind down, that means Halloween is just about here.

To help prevent danger on Oct. 31, Dayton Children's Hospital is sharing tips to keep everyone safe on Halloween night.

When children are picking out their costume, parents should take into consideration that long or sharp accessories should be avoided to lower the risk of your child getting hurt.

To stay safe and make yourself visible, it is recommended that kids use face paint rather than a face mask. Glow sticks, flashlights and reflective tape are also good items to use while out trick or treating.

Drivers should be cognizant that children will be out on the roadways and some using crosswalks to get around to collect their candy.

"Twice as many children are killed while walking on Halloween than any other day of the year," said Dayton Children's. "That's why it's important to be proactive and take necessary precautions when walking and driving on this eventful evening."
