• Michigan has won with offense this season, scoring 1.2 points per possession in each of its four wins. The defense, meanwhile, has lagged behind. Associate and interim head coach Phil Martelli said his team isn’t where it needs to be on that end of the floor.
“The beauty is it’s November,” Martelli said after the Stanford win. “And we have a long way to go, we have a lot of practice time and we have a lot of challenges starting tomorrow night with Texas Tech. We’re nowhere near where we need to be in two areas in my opinion — care of the ball and just our defensive posture. We’re not there yet. Nor will we be, maybe not until March.”
• Michigan and Texas Tech are 3-3 against one another throughout history. The last meeting came in Anaheim in the 2019 NCAA Tournament West Regional Semifinal, with the Red Raiders beating U-M 63-44 in head coach John Beilein‘s final game. Michigan shot 1-of-19 from three-point range against Kenpom’s No. 1 defense in the country.
