H.S. ROUNDUP: Patton boys soccer misses out on MF7 title with loss
BREVARD — The Patton boys soccer team missed out on a Mountain Foothills 7 1A/2A Conference championship with its first league loss, 2-1, on the road at Brevard on Monday.
The Panthers (16-4-3, 9-1-2 MF7) entered the match a half-game behind the Blue Devils, putting the conference title on the line.
"Hard-fought game," said PHS coach Keith Scott. "Now, we wait to see who we get in the first round of the state playoffs (on Saturday)."
Patton fell down 1-0 early before Josue Yax assisted Jimmy Monzon in front of the goal to even things up just before halftime. Brevard scored the winning goal after the break.
Draughn 3, Mountain Heritage 3 (OT)
The Wildcats (4-6-1, 3-4-1 Western Highlands 1A/2A Conf.) battled through an extra period to a conference tie at home in Valdese on Monday.
The contest was tied 1-1 at halftime and 2-2 at the end of regulation before both squads tacked on an additional goal in the bonus frame to maintain a stalemate to end the regular season.
Hibriten 9, Freedom 0
The Patriots (5-15, 1-9 Northwestern 3A/4A Conf.) saw their season come to a close with a mercy-rule conference loss on the road in Lenoir on Monday.
The host Panthers led 5-0 at halftime and added four more goals after the intermission to end the contest early.
JV FOOTBALL
Newton-Conover 22, East Burke 6
The JV Cavaliers (3-6, 2-4 Catawba Valley 2A Conf.) fell in conference play at home in Icard on Monday.
