SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS )—The Huntington High School band could represent the state of Louisiana as the top show band, but first, they need to make it to the LMEA State Marching Band Competition in Lake Charles.

The competition takes place on November 5th, and Huntington High Band needs help raising funds to make the trip.

"Hotels are costly, especially for a 120-member marching unit. Hotels will run about 6,000 and transportation about 5,000," explains Huntington High School Band Director Dr. Roderick Jefferson.

Dr. Jefferson says students have been working hard to get to the competition.

"We've put in a lot of hours, summer practices, kids going to various camps during the summer. We've put in a lot of time," says Dr. Jefferson.

Their hard work has paid off; they are the only Shreveport and North Louisiana marching band participating in this year's competition.
