I-75 southbound blocked due to semi-truck crash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - All southbound lanes are blocked on I-75 near mile marker 390 following a semi-truck crash.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Lieutenant Patrick Riordan, troopers responded to a crash on I-75 just north of the Newberry exit at around 11 a.m.

FHP says a Honda was driving southbound on I-75 when he had an issue with his tire, causing him to travel into the path of a semi-truck. While trying to avoid colliding with the Honda, the semi-truck drove off the road and struck multiple trees.

Drivers stuck in traffic say they thought they were getting a head start on the traffic.

"I got off early this morning trying to get an early start so we could beat traffic, and ran into this." said driver, Deshaunta Johnson.

Johnson says she was headed to Orlando when she was stopped for hours.

"We're traveling from Atlanta, headed to Winter Garden Florida. We've been out here for about a little over two hours now." said Johnson.

The driver of the semi-truck was trapped but extracted and flown to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Honda had no injuries.

Riordan added that the right southbound lane remains blocked due to a fuel spill on the road.
