'Imprinted on my heart' | Family, friends remember woman killed at southwest Houston liquor store
HOUSTON — Family and friends gathered Sunday evening to mourn a woman who was shot and killed in southwest Houston last week.
Family members said Darrell Lynn Tikisha King was 29.
"Too many painful days, it's just like the pain, it's not going away, it's imprinted on my heart," Terrance Washington said about his younger sister's death.
"[She] was my happiness man," Washington said. "We had plans to go somewhere for my birthday. Now that she passed two days before my birthday, I have to celebrate her first before myself," Washington said.
A balloon release was held Sunday night. Pink balloons were part of the tributes to King, who worked several years at the Ralston Liquor Store on Post Oak Road. Flowers and candles remain outside the front door in her honor.
"My prayers go out to her family because this was senseless," Michael Stone said.
Stone said he was King's neighbor for 11 years.
"She would call me if she had a problem. She would talk to me, and actually, we had a conversation about the guy," Stone said while referring to the suspect in the shooting.
Houston police said King's ex-boyfriend, 39-year-old Michael Dewayne Wilkerson, shot and killed her on Tuesday .
According to a court hearing, Wilkerson admitted to shooting King and claimed she "disrespected" him. King's family believes Wilkerson deserves the death penalty.
"You don't shoot nobody nine times. That shows nothing but hate," Washington said.
Instead of focusing on hate, Washington and others gathered at the balloon release are focused on the love King showed.
"My sister was a very loveable person, you would never imagine someone doing something like this to her," Washington said.
Wilkerson is expected to be in court Monday morning, he's currently being held without bond on the capital murder charge and has a $250,000 bond on a tampering with evidence charge.
