Improvements to RIPTA bus stops at CCRI to be unveiled

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Gov. Dan McKee will join other state leaders at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in Warwick on Friday to unveil newly constructed bus stops on campus.

It's part of a plan to revitalize transportation statewide. McKee will celebrate the milestone during an 11 a.m. unveiling.

Students will see changes to four stops, which now feature real-time information screens, lighting, trash cans, accessible seating for wheelchairs and other mobility devices, and solar panels to generate power.

Rhode Islanders can expect to see more improvements to public transportation in the coming years. A state planning council adopted a transit master plan in 2020 that outlines ways to boost the system.

The plan says that enhancing mobility, reducing gas emissions, and encouraging active transportation would support economic growth in the state and make it a better place to live, work and play.

CCRI's bus stops are one of the initiatives outlined in that plan.

The $1.8 million project was funded through a grant from the Federal Transit Administration.
