SPRINGFIELD Mo. – Today Missouri State University held an inauguration for the institution's 12th president, Er. Richard Williams. This was also the first time Missouri State has held an inauguration for a president since President John Kaiser in 1993. President Williams first step into his role at MSU in July, but today, a medallion was placed around his shoulders representing the start of his leadership journey.

"As you wear this chain of command, you carry with you the legacy of those who have come before and the hopes of those who will follow" said the Board of Governors.

Speakers included state senator and MSU graduate Lincoln Hough, who spoke on the importance of the university.

"Whether that's a conversation about funding. A conversation about students, financial aid, or the ability to offer whatever degree is necessary. You have a lot of friends in the Capitol" he said to President Williams.

During his inaugural address President Williams spoke on building the schools legacy and the togetherness of the community.

"Together, we will create partnerships that enhance learning opportunities and promote economic development and address the challenges we face as a society. Our university has a responsibility to serve not only our students, but also the communities that have supported us for over a century. In closing, I urge all of us to embrace the spirit of the Missouri State University. We are the Missouri State University."
