Incumbents seek re-election in Missouri’s 4th, 5th and 6th Congressional Districts
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three incumbents are looking to keep their seats in Missouri's 4th, 5th and 6th Congressional Districts in the 2024 General Election.
Missouri 4th
U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-4) is looking to win his second term in Congress and is running against Democrat Jeanette Cass.
According to her website , Cass is a pro-farmer, pro-family and pro-small business. She worked 30 years with the United States Postal Service.
Alford, a former TV news anchor at FOX4, serves on the House Armed Services Committee, House Agriculture committee and House Small Business committee.
Missouri 5th
U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-5) is seeking his 11th term in Congress and running against Republican Sean Smith, District 6 legislator for Jackson County.
Cleaver is a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, chairing a subcommittee for housing, community development and insurance. He's also a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
Prior to serving in Congress, Cleaver II served 12 years on the Kansas City Council between 1979 and 1991 before he was elected as the city's first African American mayor, holding that office between 1991-1999.
Smith, a chairman on the committee overseeing Jackson County's 911 operations, was the first Republican to announce a bid against Cleaver back in 2023. He was elected to the Jackson County Legislature in 2022.
Missouri 6th
U.S. Rep. Sam Graves is looking to win his 13th term representing Missourians in the 6th Congressional District. Graves is running against Democrat Pay May.
Graves is the Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and also serves on the House Committee on Armed Services.
Prior to serving in Congress, he was elected to both the Missouri State House and Senate in the 1990's.
This is May's first time running for any office. She's lived in various part of the district, including Clay and Platte County and currently lives in St. Joseph. She's a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University.
