Indiana Manufacturers Hall of Fame honors General Motors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A spokesperson for a major automaker in the Hoosier state says the company was recently inducted into the Indiana Manufacturers Hall of Fame.

Leaders announced General Motors' (GM) induction on Friday, saying the company was honored during an event on October 16 in Indianapolis.

Every year, the Indiana Manufacturers Association recognizes organizations for their contributions to the state's economy and their commitment to employees and the communities they serve.

GM has assembled automobiles in the Hoosier state for over 80 years and has invested over $2.8 million in Indiana in the past 10 years.

The company is being recognized for its long-term impact on the region, including the contributions from the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant which employs more than 4,000 team members.

The Fort Wayne Assembly Plant was opened in 1986 and builds Chevrolet Silverado 1500s and GMC Sierra 1500s.

The news comes just weeks after the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2209 was in contract negotiations with GM, working to get part-time temporary employees hired on full-time.

While no agreement was reached, those temporary workers have continued to work at the plant, a move the union says violates their contract.
