Interim Harrison County Tax Assessor selected after official’s death
HARRISON COUNTY, Texas ( KTAL/KMSS ) — Earlier this month, the death of the former Harrison County Tax Assessor, Veronica King, was announced on Facebook by a Harrison County Judge.
On Monday, the office had a special meeting to appoint and interim and chose Liz Cook.
Cook was a chief deputy in King's office for years but had retired. The judges' office told KTAL that Cook was happy to come out of retirement to help fill-in, and she "hit the ground running." Tuesday was her first official day.

They anticipate a permanent replacement will be chosen by January 1, 2025.
The Harrison County office wants to remind the community that King was very loved, so they appreciate people's thoughtfulness during this time. They continue to ask for grace and patience as they get back into the swing of serving their residents.
