Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign hold silent demonstration in Wexford
J.Lee34 min ago
The group walked from Gorey Fire Station to the Main Street roundabout, carrying placards and Palestinian flags as well as a custom-built river of blood to symbolise the 43,000 lives that have been lost in Palestine since last October, 2023. Speaking after the demonstration, Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) Gorey-Arklow Chairperson Jack Bergin said, "while the people of Ireland have long been supportive of Palestinian liberation, we must do everything in our power to stop Irish complicity in the brutal destruction of Gaza. "Military cargo continues to come through Irish airspace, and our island has been a corridor for US and Israeli warfare through Shannon Airport. This issue concerns all people in Ireland because hundreds of thousands of lives are being indiscriminately targeted all for apartheid Israel to expand its control over the resources of occupied Palestine. Their history is a similar one to ours, so our role in solidarity, no matter how local, is especially valued. Anybody can take part or get involved in our direct actions." The IPSC is calling on Wexford County Council and by extension the Irish government, to take immediate action to condemn Israel's actions and demand an end to the occupation. They are urging the Irish government to suspend all military and economic ties with Israel and to support the imposition of sanctions on the apartheid state as per the Occupied Territories Bill. IPSC Gorey-Arklow urges the north Wexford and south Wicklow public to join them in demanding justice for the Palestinian people. They also encourage people living in south Wicklow and north Wexford to contact their local Wicklow-Wexford TD and demand that they take action to hold Israel accountable. IPSC Gorey-Arklow hold weekly silent vigils outside Hidden Hearing from 6p.m. to 6.30p.m. every Wednesday, and hold regular stalls on the Main Street or Gorey Shopping Centre.
