MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County election officials sought to reassure citizens over concerns related to voter fraud, tampering, and voter machine inaccuracy at a public event hosted by the League of Women Voters in Rockford on Wednesday.

Winnebago County Clerk Lori Gummow and Rockford Board of Elections' Ryan Brains joined candidates on stage for the event at the GPS Faith Community, at 11189 Forest Hills Road.

Gummow said Winnebago County has not experienced any voter fraud and explained that both Republican and Democrat judges review every mail-in ballot.

Elizabeth Lindquist, of the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford, said she was thrilled to see participation from Harlem High School students, who are learning about the voting process.

"We are very excited that we have, I believe, nine Harlem High School students helping us with this event. It's so important for their future, and all of our future, that they start getting civically engaged now, when they're young," she said.
