Isolated storms bring rain to parts of dry Iowa

K.Thompson33 min ago

IOWA — A cold front moved through overnight and early Friday morning a few isolated storms moved through Central Iowa, waking some people from sleep. Des Moines only received .20′′ of rainfall but had lots of thunder and lightning around midnight. Heavier rain and stronger storms developed as they moved southeast of Des Moines. We had hail reports in Indianola and Sigourney.

Rainfall was pretty isolated to only a few communities with the heaviest rain falling near Ottumwa and Oskaloosa. Here are some of the few totals we had overnight.

Unfortunately, the rain will not continue to fall. We have more dry and windy days ahead. So there is a fire danger into the weekend as winds will increase from the south tomorrow and could gust close to 40 mph, heating us up to the upper 80s to 90 degrees on Saturday.

We have a dry sunny week ahead next week. This will continue to worsen drought conditions.
