Jim Birt, 89, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024. Born on February 27, 1935, in St Paul, MN, Jim was the son of Wesley and Madelyn. He attended Cretin High School in St. Paul, MN, and went on to earn a degree in History and PhyEd from the University of Minnesota Duluth, and a Master's at the University of Wisconsin Superior. He proudly served his country in the 1st Marine Division Recon Company during the Korean War. Jim had a long and successful career as an educator. He impacted thousands of lives as a devoted teacher, guidance counselor, coach, and driver's education teacher. Jim spent most of his career at Barnum High School in Barnum, MN. He was a loving father to Mike and Krista and a proud grandfather to Katie, Olivia, Regan, Ava, and Scarlett. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 28 at 10 am at Nokomis Park Chapel, followed by burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN - arrangements by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Veterans Affairs. His family and friends will deeply miss Jim.
