James Smith

Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Great Uncle passed on October 27, 2024 at Seaton Springwood Memory Care Unit in York, PA at the age of 77 years from complications of Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

James (aka Jimmy and "Smitty") was in business for himself as a Master Carpenter of 42 years working in Delaware and Chester Counties building kitchens, fine furnishings, renovating log homes and springhouses (his specialty), home additions and construction of outbuildings. He truly was a craftsman for his trade!

Jim graduated in 1965 from Chichester Senior High School and he lived his entire life in Upper Chichester. Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. His ports of call included: Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Jim never married nor had children. He lived with our Mom and Dad and was their caregiver in later years. For this alone he was commended. With his carpentry skills and know how, Jim made renovations to the homestead and garage our dad built in the 1950s (and he actually helped our dad build the house).

Jimmy enjoyed music, photography, cars, motorcycles and vans. Jim had a large collection of music and was known to frequent the dance clubs in his 20' and 30's. He belonged to a photography club and a van club. He enjoyed attending drag and circuit car races. He owned several cars and a motorcycle in his lifetime but memorable ones were his 1969 Chevy Chevelle and later his Datson 280Z. In later years Jimmy enjoyed walking around Upper and Lower Chichester, visiting with family and friends.

James is survived by a sister Laurie Patty (Robert), a cousin Shayna Golda, a niece Mary Kathryn Pennell, and a great nephew, Jason Gwinnutt. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Nyta Smith, and his brother Thomas Lee Smith.

We will always cherish our times with Jimmy and may he rest in peace. Jimmy knew Christ as his Lord and Savior and this alone warms the heart of our family! Laurie, Bob, Shayna, Katie, and Jason.

A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Upper Chichester, PA at 12 noon on Monday, November 18, 2024 and burial immediately following at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at in memory of Jimmy.
