Leadership Siouxland celebrates 40th anniversary

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Wednesday, Leadership Siouxland celebrated 40 years of helping make a positive impact in the community through leadership development.

Over two dozen people attended the event at Woodbury's Steakhouse inside The Warrior Hotel in Sioux City. There was a cash bar, light hors d'oeuvres, and a short program with three speakers. A ribbon cutting was also held with the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce.

KCAU 9 spoke with the organization's first executive director, Lynn Swanstrom, about what the success of Leadership Siouxland means to her.

"Well, that makes me very pleased because that was our purpose was to get more people involved in the community and to understand each other, recognize each other and respect each other and can work together and take roles that they might not have had an opportunity before," Swanstrom said.

Board members say they hope they can keep Leadership Siouxland going for another 40 years.

An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. Investigators observed surveillance video that showed the victim driving an orange Chevrolet Camaro with orange rims at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road, according to the JSO arrest report for Lavertis Reed, 20, who was charged with murder in the shooting. As the victim's vehicle crossed the intersection, a white vehicle with dark rims was observed on the surveillance video driving south at a high rate of speed on New Kings Road, the arrest report states.
