Jane Hughson wins re-election as San Marcos mayor, Rodriguez takes council seat
Incumbent Mayor Jane Hughson won re-election and Amanda Rodriguez secured a city council seat in San Marcos, while a third race heads to a runoff, according to unofficial results released Wednesday.
Hughson defeated challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo with 58.98% of the vote (14,128 votes) to Arredondo's 41.02% (9,825 votes) in Tuesday's general election.
In the City Council Place 6 race, Rodriguez won decisively with 64.16% (13,140 votes) over Maraya Dunn's 35.84% (7,341 votes).

The Place 5 council seat will be decided in a December runoff between Lorenzo Gonzalez, who led with 32.42% (6,391 votes), and Roland Saucedo, who received 26.28% (5,181 votes). Griffin Spell finished third with 24.26%, followed by Atom Von Arndt with 17.04%.
Voter turnout in Hays County reached 67.89%, with 126,298 ballots cast among 186,021 registered voters.
Hughson and Rodriguez will be sworn in at a ceremony scheduled for November 18 at 5:30 p.m. at San Marcos City Hall. The runoff election is set for Saturday, December 14.
