Local professor weighs in on Trump victory, calling the margin of victory "astonishing"
The results are in for the 2024 Presidential Election. Former President Donald Trump will once again take over at the White House.
There are a lot of emotions on both sides, along with analysis from the experts.
Trump is officially the 45th and now 47th President of the United States.
Pennsylvania, was long being called the path to the Presidency. Here in Allentown, we saw those mixed feelings on a smaller scale.
"Everything about Trump is 'Him, him, him.' Nothing has been about America. I want America to do better. I want this. He says, 'Make America Great Again', but he hasn't talked about America. It's just all about him," said Jade Germany, Allentown.
"The Democrats have been in power, and I've seen nothing has done for we the minority, especially the African American," said Thomas Kruah, Allentown.
There was an occasional dash of indifference.
"I voted for every other candidate, but for the choice of President, I left it blank,' said Bethlehem Twp. voter, Randall Behler.
Trump beat Harris by a little more than 2% here in Pennsylvania.
"I think it was a very surprising result," said Professor of Government and Public Service, Lafayette College, John Kincaid.
Across the country, it wasn't exactly the nail-biter everyone expected.
"The margin of victory for Trump is rather astonishing," Kincaid continued to say.
Trump passed 270 electoral college votes and that number could continue to rise against Kamala Harris who has 224.
"I think the polls particularly seem to misjudge the Trump voters, so perhaps they're less responsive to pollsters, less willing to express their opinion," Kincaid continue to say about election results.
Some Pennsylvanians are less surprised.
"When I look around Pennsylvania, I do admittedly see more Trump signs than Harris," described Tyler Bernini, Bally.
Many were shocked in 2016 when Trump beat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. She won the popular vote. This time Trump is on course to win the electoral college and the popular vote.
Kincaid explains one area where the Harris campaign may have gone wrong.
"I think Kamala Harris really underestimated the importance of inflation to the voters," he said.
And over-estimated the issue of Democracy, Kincaid continued.
This isn't the first time in history a president has served two non-consecutive terms. Grover Cleveland did it in the late 1800's.
That doesn't mean there aren't many firsts as well.
"He's the oldest president ever elected," Kincaid added that Trump is also the only person convicted of a felony to ever win the Presidency as well.
