Janey Godley has revealed that having to tell her autistic daughter Ashley that she had cancer was the 'worst part' of her ordeal.

The Scottish stand-up comedian, 63, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021 and after chemotherapy she is now receiving palliative care at an end-of-life care hospice.

She has told in a new interview how hard it was to break the tough news to Ashley, 38, - a comedian and radio star - because she is a 'catastrophiser'.

Janey told The Times : 'The worst part of it was having to tell Ashley. She has always been a catastrophiser; telling her was like throwing a hand grenade.

'I tell Ashley that she is likely to feel a sense of relief once it's finally done and I'm dead: no more chemo, no more hair loss, no more vomiting, no more worry. And she was just, like, 'Ah, f***, I've been waiting for that to happen for ages already!'

Janey added that it feels 'devastating' to be receiving her end of life care and that her treatment was 'dreadful' but added that 'we all come to an end sometime'.

She also sweetly gushed of Ashley: 'She's my big success in life and I'm dead proud of her. The worst thing about me dying is not being able to see her. I can't imagine being a spirit and not having her in my orbit.'

Janey shares Ashley with her husband Sean Storrie who she recently celebrated her 44th wedding anniversary with.

It comes after earlier this weekend Janey shared the heartwarming moment she was reunited with her beloved sausage dog.

She took to X to post the adorable snaps of her pet Honey as she continues to receive end of life care for her cancer in a hospice.

The sweet clip of her reunion showed Janey's dog jump up on to her bed, pleased to see her owner The Mirror reported.

The cute sausage dog seemed overjoyed to be back with the star and pounced up on her in pure excitement.

Janey then wrapped up Honey in a green blanket as she settled her in her room.

The Glasgow-born comedian revealed she was getting 'near the end' of her terminal cancer battle in a heartbreaking update on her illness last month.

The stand-up told fans she would be getting palliative care for ovarian cancer and going into a hospice in a video shared to social media.

'The chemo ran out of options and I just couldn't take any more of it and the cancer has spread,' she told followers to an outpouring of love and support.

'So it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it and it's really difficult to speak about this and say to people.'

She announced earlier in September that she had been forced to cancel her upcoming UK tour amid ongoing treatment.

In the video she continued: 'It is devastating news to know that I'm facing end-of-life but we all come to an end sometime.

'I want to thank everybody for supporting the family, especially (her daughter) Ashley and my husband.

'The overwhelming support has been amazing, and I don't know how long I've got left before anybody asks. I'm not a TikTok.

'So I just want you to know that I appreciate all the love you've gave me and all the support. Cancer affects two in one people, and it's affected me.'

She also thanked charities who have supported her throughout her health journey.

Last week Janey revealed Liam Neeson had finally received the handmade scarf she promise d she would knit him.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Janey shared snaps of Liam wrapped in the colourful gift as she wrote: 'The Liam Neeson scarf has arrived in New York and he loves it'.

The Scottish star revealed last March during her BBC podcast The C Bomb that she was knitting Liam a scarf after she found out he was a fan of her voiceover sketches.

She joked at the time: 'He will need to get it before I die that's for sure.'

During the pandemic Janey gained viral recognition for her voiceovers of politician's videos on TV, for example Nicola Sturgeon or Boris Johnson.

The star then went on to do a voiceover of Liam's famous scene from Taken where he says: 'I have a special set of skills. You've got my daughter I'm coming after you.'

She told fans: 'I did a video of that, and it was him lifting up the phone and me going: "Listen son there is a big spider in my room. See if you bring up a wee cup or something that would be good".

'And he loved it and he liked it. So then my pal said to him "She's started jazz knitting." Which is basically knitting without following a pattern.

'It's horrendous. It is like I vomited up a knickerbocker glory. But I am knitting him this scarf, he will need to get it before I die, that's for sure.'

The star joked: 'Because the good news is you see the thing is when I die I don't have to grieve, as I will be dead and he will have a great big scarf around his neck and you will see a picture and think "That's that creepy scarf she knitted for him".'

And seven months later the scarf has made its way to Liam who looked overjoyed as he kissed the knitted garment.
