J.C. Martin Elementary hosts ceremony to honor Laredo veterans

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - With Veterans Day coming up on Monday, November 11, several groups in Laredo are already holding events to honor those who served in the military.

Thursday morning, November 7, students and staff at J.C. Martin Junior Elementary School held a special ceremony to recognize local veterans. The event featured performances and poetry from the students to show their appreciation.

"It's a true honor and privilege to be able to celebrate days like this," said U.S. Army veteran Joel Gutierrez. "It's good to remind ourselves why we do it — for those who sacrificed a lot for our country. They're the reason we are here today."

This is the second year the school has held a ceremony for veterans, and more events are planned in Laredo in the coming days to honor those who have served.
