JD Vance Scores Major Popularity Boost Since Election Win
JD Vance's popularity rate has seen a major boost since he and Donald Trump won last week's election, a new poll shows.
The Vice President-elect generally struggled in the polls in the run-up to the election, but his favorability has shot up according to the latest Economist/YouGov poll .
Some 44 percent of the 1,743 people questioned between November 9 and 12 said they had a favorable opinion of Vance, including 24 percent who said he was "very favorable" and 19 percent who said he was "somewhat favorable."
Meanwhile, 43 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion of Vance, made up of 34 percent who said he was "very unfavorable" and 9 percent who said he was "somewhat unfavorable." The poll disclaims a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
This +1 margin is hugely different from the -4 margin that existed in Economist/YouGov's October poll and the -13 margin that came out of its September poll.
In October , 41 percent said they had a favorable view of Vance while 45 percent said they had an unfavorable view. Some 1,587 people were interviewed between October 26 and 29 for the poll, which has a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.
In September , 35 percent said they saw Vance favorably and 49 said they saw him unfavorably. A total of 1,592 people were questioned between September 15 and 17 for the poll, which has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
Newsweek has contacted Vance's team, via email, for comment.
Almost immediately after Trump's victory, betting sites began releasing odds for who may become the 48th president of the U.S ., with some favoring Vance.
Betting markets surged during the 2024 presidential race, and many were accurate in predicting Trump's victory, with Polymarket giving him a 62 percent chance of winning on the morning of Election Day.
Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson gives Vance odds of +450, as of Wednesday.
Thompson wrote: "His loyalty to Trump will have earned him the loyalty of Trump's supporters. And he'll have the power of incumbency when the 2028 GOP primary season begins."
"Vance has also led the party outreach to non-traditional supporters along the lines of Elon Musk ," Thompson wrote. "Vance just turned 40. Thus, his name will likely be a fixture in the presidential odds discussion for many cycles to come."
Meanwhile, SportsBettingDime's William Hill said last week that the odds for Vance are +300.
