Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office warning public of telephone scam

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Danny Carr, Jefferson County District Attorney is warning the public of a telephone scam regarding failure to report for jury duty.

The DA's office confirms they will not call, e-mail, or write to anyone regarding jury service or attempt to collect fines for failure to appear or respond to jury service. The also will no ask for any sensitive information via telephone or e-mail. Anyone who receives a telephone call should end the call immediately and notify local law enforcement.

The latest version of the scam featured the recipient of the phone call being told that they have failed to report for jury duty and will be arrested. In some instances, the recipient of the phone call is also told they can make a payment to avoid being arrested.
