Jersey aid agency appoint first ever patron

Jersey's official aid agency has appointed its first ever patron. Vice Admiral Jerry Kydm, who is also Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey, is to take up the role with Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA). Since moving to Jersey in 2022, Vice Adm Kyd has engaged with JOA and praised its approach to international development and humanitarian relief. On the appointment to his role, he said he was "delighted and excited" to get going. Vice Adm Kydd served as an officer with the Navy for 37 years, and as patron will help raise the profile of JOA and promote its work. He said: "I have seen for myself the importance of overseas aid in supporting longer-term development in countries where help is most needed. "We really can make a difference in improving lives, particularly through basic education, essential healthcare and food resilience, which helps lift communities out of poverty and enhances quality of life."
