Jong C. Shaw

Jong Chyuan Shaw passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024 at the age 94 in his Palo Alto home surrounded by family and friends. Jong was born in Tonghua, China on October 24, 1929. His passion was always in academia. His studies in Political Science took him to Taiwan as a lecturer and eventually to the University of Toyko doctorate program where he met his loving wife of over 60 years, Toshiko Kosaka. He immigrated to the United States with his wife and children in 1968 in search of a better life in pursuit of the American Dream. Starting from the ground up as a dishwasher in a Fisherman's Wharf restaurant, he would later move his family to the Peninsula and become a successful restaurant owner for over 30 years. His life was fulfilled through philanthropic efforts with family and friends, culminating in the establishment of the Shin Shin Foundation to help children in rural China get a better education. Jong is survived by his wife, Toshiko, and their four children: Yun (Adeline) Shaw, Arch (Mary) Shaw, Gouch (Joy) Shaw, Yun-Chih (Lori) Shaw: and his three cherished grandchildren: Zachary, Stella, and Leo. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Remembrance Service on Thursday, September 26, from 11:00am-2:00pm at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City. In Lieu of flowers, donations are preferred in Jong's memory to the Stanford Children's hospital or the charity of your choice.
