JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Humane Society is seeing an influx of more animals entering its shelter this month.

Joplin Humane Society staff say they've received more than 320 stray or unwanted animals since the beginning of September.

That is an average of 11 dogs and cats entering the shelter every day this month.

The shelter typically has a daily capacity of around 273 dogs and 229 cats but due to this influx of pets, it's putting a strain on the budget.

Now, staff are turning to the community for help, asking for donations.

The funds will go toward vaccines for litters of puppies and kittens, as well as finding more ways to make room for more animals.
