Mr. Joseph D. Geffert, of Mountain Top, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at his home.

Born May 13, 1934, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary Daniel Geffert.

Joseph was a 1952 graduate of Marymount High School, Wilkes-Barre, where he played on the baseball and basketball teams; a 1962 graduate of King’s College with a bachelor’s degree in business; and a graduate of Marywood University with a master’s degree in business.

He was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Staff Sargeant from 1953 to 1957, and receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Joseph was employed as an occupational analyst for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township, and Chairman of the Rice Township Vacancy Board.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley; and sister, Henrietta Papson.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Jo Sadvary and her husband, D.L., of Wilkes-Barre; son, Joseph John Geffert of Mountain Top; grandchildren, D.J. Sadvary, Rhenin Sadvary; several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
